Thai Yoga Massage

Thai yoga massage is an holistic therapy and the whole body is always treated, balancing the body and relieving stress. Many conditions can be alleviated including headache, sinusitis, insomnia and back, neck or shoulder pain.

The massage is both gentle and powerful. Its roots lie in ayurvedic medicine and it was originally practised in Buddhist temples. The intention is that the massage will be the physical application of a form of Buddhist meditation known as metta or loving kindness.

Thai yoga massage is based on a yoga tradition that vital energy (prana) flows through a series of channels in the human energy body. It is believed that stress and disease are caused by blockages in that energy flow and the aim of Thai yoga massage is to release those blockages, restoring equilibrium and harmony, promoting a return to good health.

The massage takes place fully clothed on a mat on the floor allowing the practitioner to use her palms, thumbs, elbows and feet to apply pressure to energy lines and apply yoga stretches to the whole body.

The practitioner uses her own balanced body weight to match the massage to the receiver's needs and abilities.

The massage has its own rhythm and is never rushed, typically lasting between 1 1/2 and 2 hours during which time the receiver's whole body is treated, literally from the tips of the toes to the top of the head.

During the massage, the receiver enjoys a concentrated time of peaceful sanctuary from everyday life. Additionally, many people find that the benefits of the massage continue for some days after the treatment as the energy continues to rebalance. People also report an increased awareness of and improvement in their breathing and posture.

It is possible to provide deep relaxation and relief from the particular pressures, strains and sheer heaviness of pregnancy.

Depending on the receiver's needs, the massage can be given lying in the side position and cushions used to ensure complete comfort.

As the practitioner user her intuition to sense the energy flow and respond to the individual receiver's needs, the massage can provide just the relief required and will be neither too strong nor too light.

Although I was a solictor for 12 years, I had long been interested in complementary therapies and had previously studied Reiki before commencing training with Kira Balaskas at the School of Thai Yoga Massage in 2001.

I now have 3 young children and I believe that my experience as both a lawyer and a mother have provided me with a good understanding of the stresses suffered by many clients – and their needs and expectations.

Practising Thai yoga massage has changed my life and I hope that I do not sound immodest when I say that I believe it is my true vocation.

Why not treat somebody special to a Thai Yoga Massage?
